AccurateTax as an SST Certified Service Provider
Simplify Sales Tax. Last updated 2026-09-01. Sources last verified 2026-08-19.
AccurateTax is one of the six providers certified by the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, and it currently offers free CSP services to qualifying sellers. It sells a single product line, a United States ecommerce sales tax service called TaxTools, priced by the number of orders you run through it. It publishes no price of any kind.
Certification means that in the member states where you qualify, the state compensates AccurateTax for the certified work instead of you. What separates AccurateTax from the other five is where it sits in your business: at the checkout, not in your finance systems. Its Governing Board listing describes tax calculated inside your online store, and its own product page describes TaxTools as software built for ecommerce retailers. Almost every limit further down this page follows from that one choice.

Is AccurateTax certified, and does it offer free CSP services?
Yes to both. The Governing Board keeps two lists, and AccurateTax is on the list of certified providers currently offering free services. Exactor is on the other one, certified but not currently offering them.
What the free part covers is narrower than the headline, and AccurateTax draws the line itself: the offering “is subsidized by SST, meaning that qualifying customers don’t pay anything to use AccurateTax to calculate sales tax in those states.” Calculation, in those states. Registration and filing are separate services on their own terms, and they are the next section.
One conflict inside AccurateTax’s own material is unresolved, and it is worth seeing before you rely on anything else that page tells you. AccurateTax’s Streamlined Sales Tax page opens by describing the Agreement as a collaboration among 44 states. The member state list further down that same page names 24, which is the Governing Board’s count. Both were live on August 19, 2026. The same page also calls you a volunteer seller, the older term the CSP contract replaced with CSP-compensated seller. What the current term means, and who it covers, is in what a Certified Service Provider is.
What does AccurateTax actually do?
Calculation is the core, and it is the piece the states pay for. AccurateTax describes rates drawn from geolocation rather than ZIP code, addresses validated to USPS format, and handling for sales tax holidays and product-specific taxability.
Registration is a named service with no rate attached to it. Nexus evaluation, jurisdictional registration, document submission, status tracking, and renewals all sit under it. AccurateTax says it bills registration at a fixed, transparent rate, and then publishes no rate. It also says that if you are an SST seller under the CSP program, your registration fees may be completely waived. That is a may rather than a will, so pin it down in writing before you start.
Filing splits on whether you have physical nexus. In an SST state where you don’t, AccurateTax drafts the funds you owe from your accounts and transmits them to the state with the reporting that goes with them. Everywhere else it completes your returns and coordinates the payment, home rule cities included. There is a do-it-yourself path too: pull the transaction reports out and file them yourself.
Notice and audit response is the hole in the description. Answering notices and handling audits sits on the Governing Board’s list of certified free services, and no AccurateTax page published as of 2026-08-19, its own Governing Board listing included, describes either as work AccurateTax performs. What the SST page offers in that space is a program benefit, “Business immunity from audit liability for any sales processed through the software,” which is AccurateTax’s characterization of the program rather than a Governing Board statement.
Exemption certificates, nexus determination, and voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs) are add-ons. They exist and they are sold separately. None of them is bundled into the base product.
What does AccurateTax integrate with?
Nine platforms, and the list is the clearest statement AccurateTax makes about who it built for: Ability Commerce, Adobe Commerce, Magento Open Source, Miva Merchant, osCommerce, Shopify, ShopSite, Stone Edge Order Manager, and WooCommerce. Past those, there is an XML-based API for other applications and custom shopping carts.
That is a cart-plugin catalog weighted toward self-hosted and long-established platforms, and reading it that way saves you a call. No ERP connector is published, so nothing for SAP, Oracle NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics, and no subscription billing connector either, so nothing for Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, or Zuora. BigCommerce isn’t on the list. Amazon, Walmart, and Etsy turn up on the international sellers page as assistance work rather than as a connector you switch on. And if your developers expect REST and JSON, price the XML API as a build before you commit, not after.
What does AccurateTax cost?
Nobody outside AccurateTax can tell you. There is no dollar figure on the pricing page and none anywhere else on the site, checked 2026-08-19. Only the shape is published: you are billed on the number of orders AccurateTax collects information on or calculates tax for, plus optional services like filing and exemption certificate management. It counts orders rather than API calls, and a single order can trigger several calls for address scrubbing, calculation, and order completion. Then it tells you to email for a quote.
The unit matters more than the label. Per order pricing tracks your total order count whatever the number of registrations you hold. Per state per month pricing, such as Avalara’s published $69 per state per month SST tier, tracks how many states you are registered in whatever the volume in each. Low volume spread thin across a lot of registered states costs you more under a per state model, and high volume concentrated in a handful of states costs you more under a per order model. Where your own business crosses from one to the other can’t be worked out from public information, because AccurateTax publishes no rate.
The tiers tell you what is bundled. Basic Service is calculation, usage reports, and cart compatibility. SST support, filing and payments, exemption certificates, and priority support sit in the managed tier or the add-on column instead. For the same question asked across all six, see what each certified provider charges.
How does AccurateTax handle support?
Email around the clock, phone during business hours, plus written documentation and videos if you would rather work it out yourself. Priority support is a managed-tier feature rather than something every customer gets.
What isn’t there is anything you could put in a contract. No time zone attached to those business hours, no response-time target, no service level agreement. The one service number AccurateTax publishes is a 99.99% uptime line item on the pricing page, and no supporting document sits behind it.
Best fit for a small business ecommerce seller
AccurateTax publishes for small business United States ecommerce sellers. The fit is specific. You sell online, you are on one of the nine listed carts, and your order volume is high enough that paying by order beats paying by state. You would rather buy registration, filing, and remittance from the same vendor that does your calculation than assemble the three yourself. You don’t mind emailing for a quote, and you want exemption certificates and VDA work available from the same place. AccurateTax’s own product page draws the boundary about as wide as it goes: if you charge sales tax through any channel other than in-person point of sale, it says, you are who it was built for.
Not a fit for
- An ERP or a subscription billing system. No published connector exists for either, so your fallback is building against an XML API, which is a project rather than an install.
- Selling in person. AccurateTax’s own material scopes you out.
- Needing to model cost before you open a vendor conversation. There’s no published figure to model with, and email-for-a-quote is the only route in.
- Worrying about what happens when a state sends a notice or opens an audit. No AccurateTax page published as of 2026-08-19, its own Governing Board listing included, describes that work, even though it sits on the Governing Board’s certified free services list.
- Selling into the US from outside it and needing more. International fit runs one direction only: AccurateTax handles United States tax for non-US sellers, and publishes no VAT or GST product.
